Glass ceiling in the employment of fixed-term contracts

Agents on fixed-term contracts (CDD) are the least well-known job category in the public service in general, as well as at the CNRS in particular.

A new study by the MPDF (CNRS) looks at the employment of women and men on fixed-term contracts at the CNRS from 2007 to 2020. In this publication, the comparison of the employment of women and men on fixed-term contracts shows in several ways the persistence of a glass ceiling.

This note reconstructs the evolution of recruitments on fixed-term contracts since 2007 and compares the situation of women and men among fixed-term contracts but also between fixed-term contracts and permanent agents.
• Are women more or less often on fixed-term contracts than men at the CNRS?
• Are they employed at the same level of responsibility as the titular employees?
• According to the BAPs, there are more IR or conversely more T. What is the proportion of women and men on fixed-term contracts by level and by BAP?

Women are more represented in the lower and therefore less paid grades.
• Is this disadvantage accentuated by mobility?
• Are women on fixed-term contracts more precarious than men?
