Artificial Neural Network Applications to Astronomical Spectra

22 avril @ 15h00 17h00

Séminaire de Ranjan Gupta (IUCAA, Pune, India) – Salle Jules Verne

Abstract : « Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) have been there for more than 4 decades, but only in recent years have gained importance in there usage in areas like face recognition; stock markets; biological applications and others which are more popularly known as AI. The talk will describe basics of ANN and its application in astronomy in particular classification of Astronomical Spectra and deducing various stellar parameters pertaining to stellar atmosphere. Our group had used ANN in early 90’s to do somepioneering research on stellar spectra and over past three decades have resulted in very wide range of applications. »
