The SVOM satellite observed by the TAROT telescope
The SVOM satellite, launched on June 22, 2024, is equipped with the ECLAIRs experiment, designed to detect gamma-ray bursts. ECLAIRs was developed by IRAP.
The TAROT telescope, operated by IRAP since 2006 at the La Silla observatory in Chile will be used to perform the follow up of the SVOM mission mission to study gamma-ray bursts.
Until ECLAIRs is commissioned in October 2024,
we used the TAROT telescope to observe the satellite SVOM itself as it passed over Chile.
The image shows stars in the form of trails, as the TAROT telescope TAROT followed the orbit of SVOM, which appears punctual.
