The XMM-Newton Survey Science Centre (XMM-SSC) was selected by the European Space Agency (ESA) in 1996. The XMM-SSC provides the scientific community with the the tools necessary to exploit all of the XMM-Newton data.
Objectives
The XMM-Newton Survey Science Centre (SSC) is a consortium of ten European institutes with the following responsibilities :
- development of the software (Science Analysis System (SAS)) for the reduction and analysis of XMM-Newton data
- the reduction of all of the XMM-Newton data to provide to observers
- the production of catalogues of the X-ray sources detected in the XMM-Newton data
- the identification of the X-ray sources
IRAP’s role in the XMM-SSC
- Head of the consortium
- Production, validation and publication of the catalogues
- Participation in the pipeline processing
- Software development and identification of X-ray sources
Partners
The XMM-SSC service includes the three French institutes ; Strasbourg Observatory, Midi-Pyrenees Observatory and the AIM, CEA, Saclay.
